Scrapbooking Using Nature's Resources - 11/06/2009

This summer why not make the most of what nature has to offer and incorporate some natural pieces into your scrapbook layouts? You can add flowers and leaves alongside your classic stamps and stickers to create a unique layout that incorporates items from your holiday or days in the summer. Be aware, though, that found items may not be acid free and should not be used with precious photographs if you want your layout to be preserved for many years.

A great choice to get you started is the beautiful array of summer flowers. If press you them correctly they can be kept for a long time, you can secure them onto the layout with some clear adhesive and add extra embellishments like ribbons and brads.  With a wide range of organza and satin ribbons, plus everything from plain to embellished brads, there is no end of possibility to the pages that you can create. You could also add silk flowers together with the pressed flowers to create a multi textural layout.

Wooden Frames & Fluttery Feathers

Why not use twigs to create a wooden frame for your page, you could also do this with leaves and flowers. They create interesting borders and frames, make each individual page unique and are personal to your area and your experience. Leaves make great natural stamps; simply paint one side of your chosen leaf and press firmly onto paper to achieve a great natural print. Alternatively you could collect leaf skeletons and attach them to your page using clear adhesive for a tactile layout.

Collecting and using feathers make interesting additions to your layouts, if you clean them; simply use clear glue or brads to secure them to add a natural touch to each page. They could be used to frame individual pictures or alongside leaf prints to create interesting woodland layouts.

Life’s a Beach

If you go on a beach holiday then you could create a layout of the seaside, by collecting some sand from the beach and gluing it along the bottom of your page or all the way around the edge to create a sandy frame. Bits of broken shell you have found can give the page more texture and combined with some sea creature stickers.  The Craft Planet fun stickers deep sea/ sea life, would make a fantastic holiday layout even more special.
