Tips and Tricks with Peel-Off Stickers
Peel-off stickers are available in so many different designs and colours you’re sure to find one to suit your project. Peel-off stickers are self-adhesive and come on a sheet, usually 10cm x 22.5cm in size, which includes many stickers of a similar style or theme. Unlike coloured stickers, peel-offs are outline stickers which you can add colour to yourself if you wish.
Handle Peel-Offs Gently
Because they are the outline of the image only, or words and phrases, peel-offs must be handled with care to avoid stretching and distorting their shape. To remove a sticker from the backing sheet, carefully lift up one edge with your fingers then hold the sticker with a pair of tweezers or the end of a craft knife. Slowly lift the rest of the sticker to release it. When placing the peel-off on your papercraft project, card or scrapbook page, do so in reverse order. Gently lay the sticker where you would like it starting from the middle or free end, whichever is easier. Carefully unstick the peel-off from your tweezers or knife and, when you are happy with the positioning, press down firmly with your fingers.
Embellishments & Peel-Off Stickers
Stunning embellishments can be created with peel-off stickers by sticking them on coloured paper or card and cutting round the image, close to the edges. Further colour can be added with paint, pencils or chalks if you wish, or why not add a touch of glitter glue for extra sparkle! You can use double sided tape or glue dots to fix your embellishment to your project, or why not try 3D foam pads to make your image really stand out.
Using Peel-Off Stencils
Peel-off stickers make great stencils. Simply follow the steps above to remove one from the backing sheet, but this time just lay the sticker down gently onto the card or paper. It needs to be laid flat but do not press too hard as this will permanently fix your sticker down. Pressing the sticker lightly onto your clothes before placing on the paper or card will help to make it a little less sticky. Dust over your peel-off using craft chalk and, when finished, carefully lift the sticker. You will be left with a negative image of your peel-off and a soft edge to your design. This technique is especially useful for designing your own background papers or decorating card blanks. The same sticker can be used several times before it is no longer sticky enough to hold onto the paper or card and produce a clear image.
