Ideas for Easter Gifts

Easter comes at a time of year when the world around us looks fresh and new. Spring flowers are in full bloom, blossom is on the trees and bright green leaves are beginning to appear on the trees. Why not take inspiration from nature and use fresh spring colours in your crafting.

Easter Chick Cards

For a classic Easter theme, decorate your projects with the traditional eggs, chicks and bunnies. You can buy ready-made embellishments, or why not try making your own. To make tactile chicks to adorn your cards and Easter gifts, simply take some fur fabric or felt, draw an outline of a chick on the reverse - using a template if required - and cut out using a pair of small, sharp scissors. The chick can then be stuck onto your project using double-sided tape. Add one or two googly eyes (depending on the view of the chick, if it’s sideways-on you’ll only need one!), a small triangle of yellow card for its beak and some craft wire or similar for its feet and legs and you have a beautiful little chick.

Chocolate Egg Decorations

Of course, we can’t forget those yummy Easter eggs that the Easter bunny brings us! You’ll be able to let your creative side run wild when making Easter egg embellishments. There are many different peel-offs available, which can be coloured using watercolour pencils, craft chalks or pens, and coloured stickers, chipboard shapes, buttons and brads which can be used as embellishments or to decorate an egg shaped die cut. Even crafting basics such as colouring pencils and pens can be used to create unique designs on egg shapes. Additionally, you can add a little sparkle to your Easter projects with a hint of glitter glue.

Alternative Easter Egg Painting

Instead of giving chocolate eggs, why not decorate some eggs instead. Simply paint or cover polystyrene eggs in a light base colour then, once dry, decorate using paints, gems, fabric flowers, ribbons, buttons, peel-offs or anything else you might have in your stash. If you cover your polystyrene egg rather than paint it, then mulberry paper or tissue paper can work very well. Simply tear into little pieces, apply PVA glue to your egg and stick on the paper, smoothing as you go. One of the most popular ideas in crafting is to make a collection of eggs and present them in a covered box or basket.

Children’s Easter Gift Boxes

Easter is a great time for crafting with children. Why not make your own Easter cards together or maybe decorate a box which can be filled with homemade sweets or chocolates? There are many boxes available to buy, in a variety of shapes and sizes, which are ready for you to embellish. Simply choose some papers to cover your box and decorate using flowers, stickers, buttons, peel-offs, ribbons, paper or glitter glue, all in Spring colours. If you would prefer to recycle a box you have at home, simply cover in gesso first to prime the surface, and then decorate as you wish.
